SWITCHLIGHT PARK | 2017
The Forks, Winnipeg

In response to the 2017 Forks Railside Promenade Design Competition. SWITCHLIGHT PARK is designed to collect stormwater through an extensive sub-surface drainage system. Inhabitable community greenhouse islands emerge through the promenade, while sloped seating areas accommodate large groups of loungers watching fireworks on Canada Day and hoards of tobogganers during winter festivals. Bike paths and skating trails weave through the park, up and over the island slopes. The greenhouse lantern structures are accessible to the surrounding community, growing out of the islands as iconic beacons at the centre of Winnipeg.
