Public City, with the City of Edmonton, has developed the strategic plan for the future of the Northeast River Valley Park. Before the City acquired the 77 hectare site, the area was operated as a private summer camp and now includes multiple camp buildings, tent sites, an old ropes course, and a lake with boating access. Public City worked with large stakeholder groups at the City and within the community to determine the best recreational uses of the site while taking a land-based approach to planning that respects the adjacent river valley ecosystem.

The park, intended to be a major destination in northeast Edmonton, features unique amenities such as an event centre capable of hosting up to 1000 people, a programmable lake, picturesque barn bridges, and a playground. Given the park’s connection to the River Valley, there is a significant wildlife presence, offering breeding and foraging opportunities. The project aims to develop recreational programming, address the reuse of camp sites and associated buildings, identify areas for naturalization and restoration, and enhance security and access.
